Musical Shabbat Services
Music is a powerful tool for evoking the inner space within which transformative prayer can happen. The ancients new this, and music was a big part of the ancient temple ritual. For certain historical reasons, Jewish instrumental worship music was abolished after the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 CE. Today, music is making a comeback in progressive Jewish communities who wish to deepen their prayer experience.
I have served as music director and service leader at Chochmat HaLev synagogue since 2000. In my work there, I have composed prayer music (b’ezrat Hashem) that helps to carry the congregation along through both ecstatic and contemplative moments, even if one has little experience with davening (Jewish prayer).
I am available on some weekends to bring this music to your synagogue or Shabbat event. Please contact me to discuss details!
