Classes - Living Judaism Series
Living Judaism is an annual, four-part series teaching the essentials of Jewish spiritual practice. All classes are Monday evenings, 6:00 pm - 7:10 pm, at Chochmat HaLev in Berkeley. Please call to register. Unregistered folks are welcome to drop in and register afterward.
Evening Practice, Morning Practice - 8 Mondays, December 6 - February 7 (no class Dec 19, 26)
Real transformation of consciousness requires regular practice. This class explores the particulars of ritual, liturgy and meditation as it applies to the daily cycle of Jewish prayer.
Hebrew 1 - 7 Mondays, February 14 - March 28
All Jewish ritual involves chanting of the sacred language. In this class you will learn to read Hebrew and build vocabulary. But this is more than just a Hebrew reading course; you will also learn how each letter is a particular window into meditation.
Hebrew 2 - 5 Mondays, May 2 - May 30
In this continuation of Hebrew 1, you will learn the language in more depth, particularly as it applies to the daily practice of Jewish prayer.
The Art of Judaism (times tba)
Whether music, poetry or painting, all art involves creative expression through learned technique. Judaism is a spiritual art in which the practice of forms is aimed at awakening one’s “Inner Light” – a radiant field of awareness, free from negativity and connected to the aliveness of the present moment. As this Living Presence is revealed within you, It meets Itself everywhere in a communion of Divine Love, called devakut.
“I was in the Living Judaism class in the fall of ‘08, and it far exceed my expectations. He has such a kind, positive manner. I didn't even consciously want to learn Hebrew, but I found myself loving it.
The portion on Jewish history was also wonderful. Brian is so intelligent & expresses himself in a way that is both inspiring & articulate. What a gift he has. He makes learning relaxing & fun. When we would stumble through the Hebrew he was always supportive, saying a gentle "nice." Always encouraging, always inspiring. Thanks you for all you do. Greatly appreciated!”
